Pont-Aven buys a painting by Ibels

14/6/24 - Acquisition - Pont Aven, Musée - The "nabi with the gleaming beard" was Paul Sérusier, the "nabi zouave", Édouard Vuillard, and "the nabi with the beautiful icons", Maurice Denis. Pierre Bonnard, who loved Japanese prints, was nicknamed the "japonard nabi", and Paul Ranson the "nabi more japonard than nabi japonard", while Jan Verkade was "the obeliscal nabi" because of his stature. George Lacombe inherited a less poetic epithet, simply called "the sculptor nabi", and Henri-Gabriel Ibels "the journalist nabi" because he collaborated with numerous newspapers; he designed illustrations, drawings, lithographs and posters and was also one of the founders of the Société des Dessinateurs Humoristes.
