Eighteenth century:

Yves Carlier, Le style Louis XV, Coédition In Fine éditions d’art/Château de Versailles, 2023, 128 p., 25 €, ISBN: 9782382030776

We had only been able to consult the proofs of this book, published in conjunction with the Louis XV exhibition at the Château de Versailles (see article) by one of its curators, Yves Carlier, General Curator of Heritage and Deputy Director of the Museum at the Château de Versailles. While we had hoped for a short but pedagogical synthesis on this attractive subject, it is unfortunately a book essentially composed of - beautiful - images that was finally published last February. The disappointment is therefore commensurate with the expectations, especially since the preface promises a "learned and pragmatic" book, a programme that is difficult to achieve with only fifteen pages of text. We therefore advise the potential reader to refer to the books honestly suggested in the bibliography to better try to forget this missed opportunity.
