An unpublished Lubin Baugin for sale in Vichy

31/7/25 - Vichy - Art market - The artist is little known and his name almost mythical — at least among connoisseurs — while the general public likely has no idea who Lubin Baugin is, despite the (already long-past) success of Tous les matins du monde, released in 1991. Could the summer of 2025 mark a revival for the artist? On 1 July, the Musée du Louvre finally hung on its walls his delightful Adam and Eve Mourning the Death of Abel, a previously unpublished copper painting preempted two years ago in Toulouse (see the news item of 26/6/23)! As we wrote at the time, the work is of remarkable quality — a fact revealed by its restoration (ill. 1), as it was yellowed and unrestored when acquired.
