A few clarifications on seventeenth-century French paintings at the Louvre

24/4/25 - Museum and acquisition - Louvre and Houston, Museum of Fine Arts - We made it clear in our recent article on 17th-century paintings that it concerned the Louvre and its policy on hanging and acquiring collections, and that we had worked from the Louvre database and a visit to the galleries. It was inevitable that errors would have crept into this database, which cannot be updated on a daily basis. We are therefore able to make some clarifications thanks to information provided since then by a number of people whom we would like to thank here, but this does not change the fact that we have established.

Although Houasse is not exhibited in the Louvre, the painting Apollo and Daphne, indicated on the Louvre database as "not exhibited", is in fact on display in the château’s new…
