The curious story of The Desperate Man, on view for 5 years at the Musée d’Orsay

14/10/25 - National Treasure - Paris, Musée d’Orsay - In a triumphant press release sent to AFP, which published an article reprinted widely, the Musée d’Orsay boasted of exhibiting for the first time in France, in seventeen years, the famous self-portrait known as The Desperate Man, which had been shown at the Grand Palais during the 2007 retrospective. The painting, which, according to our information, was never part of the BNP Paribas collection, contrary to what has been said, had been acquired by the Qataris “with the intention of exhibiting it in their future museum of contemporary and modern art, the Art Mille Museum in Doha, whose construction is expected to be completed by 2030”. This painting, “belonging to Qatar Museums, Doha, Qatar”, had even been the subject, on 10 June…
