Four views of Bagatelle for Versailles

18/11/25 - Acquisitions - Versailles, Musée national des châteaux de Versailles et de Trianon - It is an exceptional ensemble, four beautiful large sheets, which one could only hope would join the national collections (ill. 1 to 4): after their reappearance at a public sale at the Hôtel des Chevau-Légers in Versailles in February 2013, these views of Bagatelle were shown at the Aaron Gallery in Paris (see the news item of 17/4/13), and immediately aroused our enthusiasm. It was necessary to wait until the end of 2024 to see them enter, not the collections of the Fondation Mansart — which has taken over the management of Bagatelle and is currently undertaking its restoration — but those of the Château de Versailles, whose teams could not miss them after their (new) presentation at the…
