Drawings (and more) at Master Drawings Week in New York

2/2/25 - Art market - New York - Every year, at the end of January and beginning of February, a week devoted to old master drawings is organised by New York galleries, with foreign dealers also taking part. This event takes place at almost the same time as the Winter Show, a fair organised at the Armory Show.
While much of the Winter Show - which closes today, Sunday 2 Februay - is devoted to 19th and 20th century American art, a number of galleries are also showing drawings, paintings and pieces of old master drawings and furniture, including several French galleries.
These include the Galerie Léage, with a fine chest of drawers attributed to Philippe Pasquier (ill. 1), characterised by its yew marquetry. This consists of an assembly of pieces of yew veneer that reproduces the vinage of marble. Although the piece of furniture is not stamped, probably because it was made by a merchant, this technique in yew wood is rare and characteristic of this cabinetmaker’s work.
