23/9/24 - Obituary - Giovanni Sarti seemed indestructible. The news of his death in Naples on 18 September came as a surprise to everyone, who had not been aware that he had been unwell since the summer.

He was born in Albania on 7 September 1943 to Italian parents. They had to flee Albania very early on and settled in the village of Belforte all’Isauro, in the Marche region, where he was educated by the Jesuits. Although he was one of the greatest connoisseurs of Italian painting, particularly of the gold backgrounds, Giovanni Sarti had never studied and was completely self-taught.
