A Vase by Triqueti enters the Louvre

23/10/24 - Acquisition - Paris, Musée du Louvre - A bronze vase by Henri de Triqueti (ill. 1 to 4) was offered for sale at the Galerie Moderne in Brussels on 19 February, under the number 49. The estimate of €7-10,000 was ridiculously low, not only because of the rarity of Triqueti’s bronzes, which he did not edited, but also because of the provenance. The work, commissioned from the sculptor by Louis-Philippe’s son Ferdinand d’Orléans, came from the Belgian royal collections via the prince’s sister Louise d’Orléans, who had married King Leopold. Part of this collection, to which this vase belonged, was dispersed in 2000.
As the work was offered under the correct attribution, but without any real publicity, it escaped the notice of French museums until the day before the sale. However,…
