A rhinoceros in Amsterdam

20/3/25 - Acquisition - Amsterdam, Rijksmuseum - As every year, there were many museum curators browsing the aisles of the TEFAF, which closes its doors today (see the article); several works have thus joined the public collections, including a Rhinoceros, exhibited by the Munich gallery Kunsthandel Mehringer, which was acquired by the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam [1] This 18-th century terracotta attributed to Petrus Camper represents a very specific animal, a female called Miss Clara, which the Amsterdam museum honoured in an exhibition in 2022 (see the article).
