A portrait of Margaret of Austria for Mechelen

16/8/24 - Acquisition - Mechelen, Museum Hof van Busleyden - First repudiated, then twice widowed, Margaret of Austria was shuffled from court to court, promised successively to the thrones of France and Spain, before marrying the Duke of Savoy. However, she was not content to be a bargaining chip for the Habsburg family; on the contrary, she established herself as a woman of power in the early 16th century.
