A portrait by Carolus-Duran for the Musée George Sand

8/1/25 - Acquisition - La Châtre, Musée George Sand - The Musée George Sand in La Châtre has just officially added to its collections a portrait by Carolus-Durand, preempted by the town at Hôtel Drouot on 1 October. Offered for sale by Nicolas Nouvelet, it fetched €4,500 over the hammer.

Signed and dated on the left ‘Carolus Duran/1860’, the effigy represents Emile Aucante, George Sand’s secretary and confidant, was born in La Châtre.
