A Pietà returns to Naples
10/9/25 - Acquisition - Naples, Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte - In terracotta or porcelain, the suffering of the Pietà is not quite the same — silent and intimate in one case, theatrical in the other (ill. 1 to 3). The artist only needed to alter the movement of the Virgin’s right hand to nuance the expression of her despair: here, she wipes her tears with her cloak and hides her face (ill. 2); there, she raises her arm above her dead son (ill. 3).
