A painting by Lotte Laserstein for Stockholm

5/1/25 - Acquisition - Stockholm, Nationalmuseum - The pseudonym chosen by the German journalist Ilse Amalie Ehrenfried to sign her articles was "Polly Tieck", directly inspired by the word "politics". She captured the women of her time with her pen, while Lotte Laserstein portrayed them with her brush. The painter portrayed the columnist, cigarette in hand, monocle over her eye, in a painting entitled A Modern Woman by Conviction, which has just joined the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, sold for 4 650 000 kronor at the hammer price (405 903 euros) on 20 November at Bukowskis. Why Stockholm? Because Lotte Laserstein emigrated to Sweden when National Socialism prevented her from practising her profession, and she lived there until her death in 1993.
