A painting by Francesco Hayez acquired by Yale

28/10/24 - Acquisition - New Haven, Yale University Art Gallery - As Canesso Gallery announced last week, Francesco Hayez’s large painting entitled Doge Marin Faliero Accusing Michele Steno of Insulting the Honor of the Dogaressa has been sold through its intermediary to the Yale University Art Gallery. The work has already taken its place in the museum’s European art department, which until now had only one leaf by this great representative of Italian Romanticism, which also recently entered the collections as part of a major donation of Italian drawings from the Ottocento period by New York collectors Roberta Olson and Alexander Johnson (see news item of 22/5/23 and interview).
