A new sculpture by George Minne for Boston
16/5/25 - Acquisition - Boston, Museum of Fine Arts - The European department of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, has recently been enriched by a new sculpture by George Minne, The Small Relic Bearer in bluestone (ill. 1 to 3). It joins in the collections Man with Wineskin, an exactly contemporary plaster cast by the Belgian sculptor purchased from the Richard Nagy gallery in London in 2019, an acquisition that we had not previously mentioned and which we therefore reproduce here (ill. 4). A print by the artist, whose famous sculptural work should not obscure the fact that he was also a prolific draughtsman and engraver, who illustrated the works of his compatriots the symbolist writers Grégoire Le Roy, Maurice Maeterlinck and Émile Verhaeren.
