A new Monfreid for Montpellier

14/1/24 - Acquisition - Montpellier, Musée Fabre - As we have already mentioned on several occasions (see news items and articles), since 2017 the Musée Fabre has been working to build up a collection of works by Georges Daniel de Monfreid, the latest addition to its collections dedicated to artists at the crossroads of the Paris art networks and the painting scene in the Midi region. The collection now includes a new landscape, View of Saint-Chély-d’Apcher, which fetched €18,660 at the Narbonne auction house on 12 October thanks to the museum’s corporate foundation. Although it did not feature in the recent remarkable Monfreid retrospective presented by the Musée Hyacinthe Rigaud in Perpignan (see article), the landscape was presented at the first strictly monographic exhibition…
