A new « Caron » for Beauvais

21/7/26 - Acquisition - Beauvais, Musée départemental de l’Oise - This is a fascinating painting that enriches the collections of Beauvais, which are still little known and too often kept in storage despite the recent reopening of an entire floor (see the article): Christ Before Pilate (ill. 1) failed to find a buyer at the sales organized at Sotheby’s in Paris last month (see the news item of 8/6/26) and had already suffered a similar fate when it appeared on the market at Cornette de Saint-Cyr in Brussels in October 2021. Passed over twice, it was fortunately able to benefit from an aftersale in favour of the valiant Beauvais museum, whose dynamic acquisition policy is now well known.
