A Manfredi for the Met
12/9/23 - Acquisition - New York, Metropolitan Museum of Art - A single solemnity for two saints: Peter and Paul are celebrated on the same day, considered to be the two pillars of the Church, one the stone on which it is built, the other the apostle to the Gentiles. They did, however, experience some friction, particularly over the integration of non-Jews into the Christian community and the abandonment of certain Jewish practices. They were depicted side by side from very early on, as shown by some famous icons from the 12th century.
