A large Kokoschka returns to Dresden

14/4/25 - Acquisition - Dresden, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, Albertinum and Hanover, Sprengel Museum - Some works have a rather chaotic journey before finding their ideal, not to say natural, location, and this is how one of the most important purchases made by German museums at the beginning of the year has had an edifying recent history: This large painting (ill. 1) by Oskar Kokoschka, which had been deposited for more than forty years in prestigious Germanic institutions, only entered the museum collections of Dresden and Hanover in February 2025!
