A 15th-century polyptych returns to Corsica

8/4/25 - Acquisition - Corte, Musée de la Corse - Because American collections are not inalienable, the Bass Museum of Art in Miami was able to sell a 15th-century polyptych last February, in order to be able to buy other works in line with its current cultural policy [1]... This altarpiece belonged to John and Johanna Bass, who donated their collection to the city of Miami Beach in 1963 to create a museum (ill. 1).
Pierre Rosenberg and Philippe Costamagna informed the Corsican community that it had been put up for sale by Sotheby’s in New York. It was sold for 337,012 euros (including fees) on 6 February and has since joined the collections of the Musée de la Corse in Corte.
