A new portrait by Gaspar de Crayer for the Museo de Bellas Artes de Valencia

22/11/25 - Acquisition - Madrid, Museo del Prado - He is one of the ten lots secured by the Spanish State on the occasion of the dispersal of an important private collection orchestrated by the Madrid auction house Ansorena on 4, 5 and 6 November (news items to come). The large Portrait of a Lady Dressed in Black by Gaspar de Crayer was acquired at 40,000 euros hammer for the Museo de Bellas Artes de Valencia. The artist is one of the great Antwerp painters of the seventeenth century with Rubens Van Dyck and Jordaens who however enjoy a very different posterity. Let us recall that a retrospective organised by the Musée de Flandre in Cassel worked recently towards his rehabilitation (see the article).
